*** PCKEYS Ver. 1.0 ***
DESCRIPTION:
PCKEYS is an entertaining but educational program which
displays a "keyboard" on screen which can be "played" by
clicking the mouse on the keys.
There are options to play longer, normal or shorter-length
notes, and also to "record" your composition, in which case
you can also insert "rest-notes" of any of the three lengths.
After you have recorded as series of notes and rests, you can
then "play back" your composition. Playback offers several
tempo options by hitting the "S" or the "F" button for slower
or faster.
The note designations are listed on the keys for educational
purposes.
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
This program should run fine on as little as 512K. Also
requires a MS-compatible mouse and a speaker. Also CGA.
No installation is required, should run off a diskette.
INSTRUCTIONS:
There should be no need for detailed instructions, and some
instructions are contained within the program. So we will
just describe some of the functions here:
Clear: This button will erase any composition in memory.
Record: After pressing this button, all notes, rests, etc.
will be recorded in memory until the STOP button
is pressed. Note that you CAN play a partial tune
and then continue to add to it.
NOTE: There IS a limit to how long a tune may be,
but since the entries can be in the thousands, we
did not incorporate an "error-trap" in the event
this limit should be exceeded. We doubt anyone
will reach this limit without intentionally doing
so.
Stop: This button will turn off the recording function.
Any notes played will not be recorded, but this
WILL NOT erase anything currently in memory.
F & S: These buttons control the tempo (or speed) at which
the recorded music is played back. Each time one is
clicked it makes a small adjustment to the playback
speed. If you reach the limits, you will get a
message saying so.
